Mateo Kovacic is a Manchester City player after signing a four-year deal with them and said goodbye to Chelsea F.C. fan.

Manchester City has officially signed midfielder Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea on a four-year contract. The agreed-upon transfer fee was £25 million ($32 million) upfront, with an additional £5 million ($6 million) in potential add-ons. Kovacic expressed his excitement about joining City, stating that they are the best team in the world, and he is thrilled to be part of their squad.

Chelsea already cleared many players of their team out of the club after the worst performance by the Chelsea team since 1997, finishing 12th in the Premier League table.

City manager Pep Guardiola wanted to strengthen the midfield options after missing out on Jude Bellingham, who joined Real Madrid, and with captain Ilkay Gundogan completing a free transfer to Barcelona. City’s director of football, Txiki Begiristain, praised Kovacic’s skills and experience, highlighting his suitability for the team’s tactical and technical requirements.

Earlier reports indicated that Chelsea initially demanded £35 million ($44 million) for Kovacic, but they reduced their asking price to facilitate the deal before June 30, which was crucial for them to comply with UEFA’s Financial Fair Play rules. This transfer is part of Chelsea’s squad restructuring under new head coach Mauricio Pochettino, following the departure of players like N’Golo Kante, who joined Saudi Pro League side Al Ittihad.

Mateo Kovacic admired Manchester City and their manager, Pep Guardiola. He believes that anyone who has seen City play under Guardiola knows how exceptional they are. According to Kovacic, they are the best team in the world and have an impressive collection of trophies. He considers joining City’s squad to be a dream come true for any footballer. Kovacic also mentioned that he still has room for growth and improvement as a player and is excited to learn and develop under Guardiola’s guidance. He believes that working with Guardiola will help him become a better player, which fills him with anticipation.
