Former India captain Tushar Khandker appointed as coach for Junior Women’s Hockey team ahead of FIH Women’s Junior Hockey World Cup 2023.

Former India captain Tushar Khandker joins Junior Women's Hockey team as coach, bringing a wealth of experience and expertise ahead of the FIH Women's Junior Hockey World Cup 2023.

Hockey India announced on Tuesday that Tushar Khandker, former India captain, will be joining the coaching staff of the Junior Women’s Hockey team as they prepare for the upcoming FIH Women’s Junior Hockey World Cup 2023. The tournament is scheduled to take place in Santiago, Chile, from 29th November to 10th December. Khandker will be working with the Junior Women’s Core Probable Group at the Sports Authority of India centre in Bengaluru.

Having previously served as the deputy of senior women’s team chief coach Janneke Schopman, Khandker brings a wealth of coaching experience to the table. Over the past decade, he has established himself as a highly accomplished coach. Notably, from 2014 to 2016, Khandker was a part of the Indian men’s team coaching staff, contributing to the team’s silver medal win at the Champions Trophy in London, gold medal victory at the Asian Champions Trophy, and bronze medal finish at the World Hockey League. He was also involved in coaching the Indian team during the Rio Olympics in 2016.

Khandker’s coaching credentials are impressive, having completed the FIH Level 1 course in addition to Hockey India’s Coaches Education Pathway Level Basic, Level 1, and Level 2. His expertise was recognized when he served as part of the coaching staff for the senior women’s team during the 2021 Asian Champions Trophy and Asia Cup in 2022. Under his guidance, the team secured a bronze medal and qualified for the World Cup.

Hockey India’s decision to appoint Khandker reflects their confidence in his abilities to contribute to the development and success of the Junior Women’s Hockey team. As the players gear up for the prestigious FIH Women’s Junior Hockey World Cup, Khandker’s experience and expertise will be instrumental in guiding and mentoring the young talents.
