India Looks to Make Mark at Asian Champions Trophy 2023

India will take on China in the opening match of the Asian Champions Trophy 2023 at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Hockey Stadium in Chennai.

The Indian men’s hockey team will begin its campaign for the Asian Champions Trophy 2023 on August 3 at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Hockey Stadium in Chennai. The defending champions of the tournament, Korea, will face Japan in an opening day encounter, while India is slated to take on China in its campaign opener. 

The six-team tournament will include a number of powerhouses from the Asian region competing for top honours. Alongside India, China, and Korea are Malaysia, Pakistan and Japan; all teams will be vying to clinch the title. 

India’s performance in international hockey tournaments has been on an upswing over the past few years under coach Graham Reid. With the team having recently won silver at the FIH Pro League 2020-21, expectations from Team India is high as they take on formidable opponents like China. 

The tournament will run from 3rd August to 12th August, with each team playing against one another in a league format that will decide their position on the points table. The games promise to be fiercely fought matches between some of Asia’s top hockey teams and it is sure to make for an exciting tournament. 

India’s Head Coach Graham Reid, speaking on his team’s preparations for the Asian Champions Trophy said: “The players have worked extremely hard in training and they are ready to take their game to the next level. We have a healthy mix of experience and youth on the team and I believe that this team has what it takes to bring home the trophy.” 

The Asian Champions Trophy 2023 promises to be an exciting tournament with some of Asia’s best hockey teams competing for glory. With India set to begin its campaign against China, all eyes will be on Team India as they look forward to making their mark at the tournament.
