Saurav Ganguly wants this player to start playing Test cricket again.
After Australia’s dominant victory over India in the World Test Championship final, questions regarding the future of the Indian team in test cricket started surfaced on social media. Users started trolling Indian team players and questioning their ability to play test cricket. Former cricketers gave their advice to the players who didn’t perform in the WTC final, and some cricketers questioned the team players selection as Ravichandran Ashwin, who is the number one test bowler, was not part of the team playing XI. The weird team selection cost India an ICC title, and it was the second consecutive ICC WTC title loss for India.
Former BCCI president and Indian skipper Saurav Ganguly expressed his views on playing an all-rounder in test cricket and wants Hardik Pandya to start playing test cricket for India again. As the all-rounder last played a test match for India back in 2018, he has so far played only 11 test matches in which he took 17 wickets and scored 532 runs. He played his last test match against England, and since then he has been off from test cricket. As India is going to start a fresh journey for the WTC (2023–25) by playing against the West Indies, Saurav Ganguly believes that Hardik Pandya can fill the all-rounder spot for India comfortably. Speaking on India Today, Saurav Ganguly said:
“Let’s not jump to conclusions due to just one loss; India will always have talent. India has enormous reserves. When you look at some of the performances. I don’t consider IPL performances if we are sticking to Test cricket. In domestic cricket, there are some fantastic players, and you will only find out when you give them opportunities. Whether it be Jaiswal or Patidar, Abhimanyu Easwaran from Bengal scores a lot of runs. Shubman Gill is young; Ruturaj Gaikwad is young; and I hope Hardik Pandya is listening. I want to see him play Test cricket, especially in these conditions,”
