Disney Star crossed the half-billion mark during IPL 2023.

The TATA IPL 2023 official TV broadcaster Disney Star reported that the platform crossed 500 million viewers in IPL 2023. Earlier, its competitor JioCinema, the official streaming partner of IPL 2023, declared that the platform received a spectacular number of 44.9 crore viewers during the IPL 2023. After 3 years since COVID-19 hit the world, the Cash Rich League happened in India. Cricket fans in India were all ready to enjoy live action, and IPL 2023 didn’t disappoint them as the majority of the matches were breath-taking, many records were broken by the youngsters, and some spectacular last ball finishes made fans jump off their seats in joy.

A mind-boggling 427.1 billion minutes of watch time were registered in Disney Star, besides the 50.5 crore viewership. If coverages of the matches and the highlights views are accumulated, then the number goes beyond 53 crores. The BCCI played a masterstroke by dividing the digital and TV broadcaster rights between JioCinema and Disney Star, where the former got the digital broadcasting rights and the latter got the TV broadcasting rights. The deal was a win for both parties and for the BCCI, as the broadcasters got staggering viewership and the BCCI got a whopping Rs 48,390 crore in the deal.

The astounding response from the cricket fans in India helped platforms like Star and Jio cross such gigantic numbers in viewership, and praise should be given to the platforms for keeping the viewers intact on their platforms by providing engaging content throughout the entire season. The sports head of Disney Star said that.

“We are thankful for the overwhelming support of our fans, who joined us in our journey to make IPL 2023 the most-watched Cricketing event in India’s broadcast history. From last ball nail-biters to high-scoring thrillers, from the addition of the impact player rule to the emergence of future stars, from the last spot on the playoffs being decided in the last league stage match to the tournament winner being decided on the final ball, this edition of IPL has been special in many ways. Countless memories will be etched in cricket history including the fact that is the first time that half a billion viewers tuned in for a Cricket tournament.”
