Indian Hockey Team lost to Netherlands in FIH Pro League by 1-4

Indian Hockey Team once again lost by a heavy margin in the FIH PRO League match against the Netherlands by 1-4. Harmanpreet is the only scorer for India.

Once again, Indian Hockey Team was not able to perform well against the Top 10 hockey nations as they lost their match against the Netherlands Hockey team by 1-4 on June 7th, 2023.

Indian team broke the deadlock in the 11th minute of the match as captain Harmanpreet Singh scored a goal, but after that, Netherland’s Pepijn Reyenga scored the first goal for his side in the 17th minute of the match. After that, Boris Burkhardt scored the 2nd goal for the Netherlands side in the 40th minute, and just after 1 minute, Duco Telgenkamp scored the third in the 41st and, at last, in the 58th minute, scored his second goal of the match to end the game with a score line of 1-4.

Indian coach Craig Fulton was given the charge to lead the Indian Hockey team for the four matches, but he is already frustrated with the defense level, which India has is the biggest concern for the hockey team as they leak too many goals.

Since they won the bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020, the skill and performance of the Indian Hockey team went down, which is one of the biggest concerns as they are not able to give the results. Even in the last match against Great Britain, India conceded four goals, and their defense gave them 15 penalty corners, which is a serious issue.

In the match against Belgium, Indian Hockey Team lost the match by 5-1, and in that match, too, they conceded 11 penalty corners. However, Fulton said that the Indian Hockey team is improving, but they still need a lot of time to work on their skills and be more attacking as India scores very few goals, making the other team build pressure on them. Once that pressure is built, the defense of the team collapse, and they start to concede goal quite regularly.

Indian Hockey Team’s next match is against Argentina, which is one of the top 3 teams and can hurt Indians heavily.
