ICC is going to publish World Cup 2023 fixtures soon: ICC CEO Geoff Allardice
The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 fixtures will be revealed soon, according to ICC CEO Geoff Allardice in a recent interview with the BBC on BBC’s Test match special. The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 is going to happen in India, and the schedule of this tournament is yet to be made public. Noting the fact that the fixtures of the 50-over ICC tournament earlier had been released years before the tournament, this time the ICC is doing the delay. As per some unofficial sources, the 50-over event is going to start on October 5 and end on November 19, but there is no official declaration as such by the ICC on the expected dates.
BCCI secretary Jay Shah earlier during the IPL 2023 said that the ICC would be releasing the fixtures of the cricket event between the World Test Championship final, but CEO Geoff Allardice didn’t confirm yet whether it was going to be as Jay Shah said or not. Earlier, the members of the ICC, including CEO Geoff Allardice, were in Pakistan to confirm their participation in the ICC event following the Asia Cup 2023 fiasco, as the Pakistan Cricket Board showed the probability of their boycotting the event.
While speaking on BBC’s Test Match special he said:
“I think even today (Wednesday), we might be receiving the schedule from the hosts, and we’ve just got a bit of consultation to do with all the participating teams and the broadcasters. Then we’ll be publishing that as soon as we possibly can,”. “When we put on events, we very much work hand in hand with the hosts. And in some places, there’s a lot of consultation that needs to take place, both within the cricket system and with governments, etc. There’s a lot of responsibility on a host to deliver a good event, and they’ve got to go through the right checks and balances,
Geoff Allardice
When asked about whether the delay is because of Pakistan’s reluctance to play in India, he said
“Our events team is very experienced at putting on cricket events in all different countries, and you control what you control. And I think that’s the approach that our team is taking, and they’re working on the things that they can progress for the event. The moment we have that information, we’ll be pushing on it at a rate of knots.”
