Asia Cup 2023 updates: Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan reject hybrid model of PCB.

Asia Cup 2023, which was earlier scheduled to happen in Pakistan this year, will most probably be shifted to some other country as the Pakistan cricket board’s “hybrid model” proposal is now rejected by Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan cricket boards, which is a clear sign that they are backing the BCCI’s decision to move the Asia Cup 2023 outside Pakistan to a neutral venue. As per the hybrid model proposed by the Pakistan Cricket Board’s chief Najam Sethi, Pakistan must be allowed to host 3–4 matches, and the rest of the game would be played outside Pakistan in a neutral venue. So, it is likely that Pakistan will pull out of the Asia Cup 2023 as other major boards are voting opposite to that.

Earlier BCCI decided that team India would not be playing in Pakistan due to security concerns and now as other three members also rejected the Hybrid model the venue for this Asia Cup would most probably be Sri Lanka as speculated earlier by the experts and some sources. Former Pakistan’s cricket team captain Rashid Latif posted the updates on his twitter account saying.

India and 3 countries, except Pakistan, rejected Hybrid model for Asia cup, All agreed on ONE VENUE due to logistics and financial issues. Might be a Zoom meeting soon or a general meeting in Dubai in few days to finalise the matter.

There are speculations that Pakistan would withdraw from the tournament altogether and the other teams would organize an ODI event in Sri Lanka before the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, but these are just speculations, and Pakistan cricket board chief Najam Sethi and other officials are yet to declare what their take on the venue problem is and whether they would wave the green flag to whatever the Asian Cricket Council decides or not. Only time will tell what would be the results of this Asia Cup 2023conundrum.
