Virender Sehwag was afraid of this bowler during his career.
Indian veteran Virender Sehwag recently revealed the name of the bowler that he was afraid to face when he was in the prime of his career. Virender Sehwag, while having a conversation with Gaurav Kapur at a show called “Breakfast with Champions,” told the host that he was afraid of the Sri Lankan spinner Muttiah Muralitharan. The former batsman of the Indian Cricket team is one of the most destructive batters ever played; the way he changed the orthodox approach of playing defensive cricket as an opener was sensational. The right-handed opening batter was known for his fearless batting approach and was a good reader of spinners and pacers both.
Virender Sehwag had many records to his name and was part of the winning team in the 2011 ICC World Cup. He said that he was never afraid to get dismissed in the over of the great Shane Warne, Shoaib Akhtar, Brett Lee, or any good bowler of that time, but the fear of getting out in the over of Muttiah Muralitharan was something else for him, as he knew that other bowlers could take his wicket, but Muttiah Muralitharan could take his wicket plus stop him from making runs at the same time in his over.
While speaking on “Breakfast with Champions” his words were;
“The only bowler I was afraid of getting out was Muttiah Muralitharan. Everyone thought that it will be Shane Warne or Shoaib Akhtar or Brett Lee or Glenn McGrath but against them, I was never afraid of getting out. I was afraid of getting hit on my body or on my helmet. Against McGrath, it was like, we can’t score runs against him, that’s all.
“However, against Muralitharan, I was afraid. I didn’t know how I will score runs against him as I was afraid of getting out. I used to struggle to pick his doosra,”
Virender Sehwag said in the show.
