Joe Root breaks Brian Lara’s record, becomes the fastest batter to score 11,000 runs in test cricket.

England’s right-handed batter Joe Root, while playing against Ireland in the one-off test match, broke the record of West Indies veteran Brian Lara of scoring the fastest 11,000 runs in test cricket. Joe Root scored 11,000 runs in the 130th test, and Brian Lara achieved this feat in his 131st test match. Joe Root, on the second day of the test match, scored his fifty and reached the landmark after scoring a single in the over of Curtis Campher. After scoring 56 runs, McBrine took his wicket. England is currently dominating the test match, and after getting a lead of 352 runs over Ireland, England’s captain Ben Stokes declared the inning.

During Day 2, Ireland showed resistance, but England’s bowler managed to take 3 wickets before the end of the second day of play. Ireland were on 97 runs, down 3 wickets, and trailing behind by 255 runs. Joe Root is currently only the second England batter to have crossed the 11,000-run mark; the first one was Alastair Cook, who scored 12,472 runs in test matches for England. Joe Root is currently leading the maximum runs in the test cricket table (talking about the active players who are playing the test cricket), Australian batter Steven Smith is in second place with 8792 runs in 96 matches, and in third position is  Indian batter Virat Kohli with 8416 runs from 108 Test matches.

Root is the 11th batter to have crossed the 11,000-run mark, joining the elite list of the likes of Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Alastair Cook, Kumar Sangakkara, Ricky Ponting, etc. Sachin Tendulkar is at the top of the list with 15,921 runs in 200 matches. Root has yet to make nearly 5000 runs more to beat cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar. Ben Stokes and Co. are preparing for their Ashes series, and the results of the one-off test match, if they come out in favor of England, would be a boost for them.
