AIFF Forms Core Committee to Strengthen Executive Transparency and Accountability
The All India Football Federation (AIFF) took the surprise step of forming a five-member core committee to oversee its executive committee’s functioning in collaboration with secretary general Shaji Prabhakaran. The composition of this core committee has given further strength to speculations that all may not be well within the organisation.
NA Haris, Congress MLA from Bangalore and AIFF vice-president has been appointed as the chairman of the core committee, with Avijit Paul taking up the role of vice-chairman. Lalnghinglova (Tetea) Hmar, Mulrajsing Chudasama and Vijay Bali are the other members of this newly formed group.
The decision to form a core committee was taken on the eve of an important finance committee meeting, which is scheduled to be held in New Delhi. The finance committee’s primary responsibility will be to review all financial decisions that have been taken by the AIFF and provide strategic direction on future investments. It will also assess the financial progress of AIFF affiliated clubs and leagues, and recommend corrective measures wherever needed.
The committee will also be responsible for identifying ways to reduce operational costs while ensuring that all activities are conducted with utmost transparency and accountability. It is expected to strengthen the internal audit system of the organisation in order to ensure efficient use of funds and resources.
The core committee will also be expected to review the functioning of AIFF’s executive committee, and make recommendations for improvement. This move is seen as a step in the right direction towards bringing greater transparency and accountability in the functioning of AIFF.
