Ishan Pandita: Cementing His No. 9 Spot in ISL and National Team

Ishan Pandita is optimistic about his future prospects in the Indian Super League (ISL) and with the national team. The 25-year-old striker knows that he needs to put in the hard work if he wants to cement his position as a regular starter on both sides.

Pandita has only really featured sporadically in the ISL since his breakthrough season back in 2016, where he scored four times for Chennaiyin FC. But despite the lack of game time, Pandita hasn’t let it deter him from chasing his goal of becoming a regular starter.

“I know I need to work hard for consistent minutes and that is what I am aiming to do. I have been given a few chances here and there, but I need to make sure that when these opportunities come up, I’m ready for it,” said Pandita.

Since his breakthrough season, Pandita has represented Mumbai City FC, ATK and Goa in the ISL. He has also had loan spells with Minerva Punjab and Kerala Blasters. With all of these sides having differing tactical systems, Pandita knows it will take time to master the nuances of each one but is hopeful that when he does, he can establish himself in the league.

“I think I am quite versatile so I can adjust my style for different teams. I just need time to get used to each system and then I think I can make an impact.”

Pandita is also eyeing a place in the national team after being called up for camp earlier this year. He knows that with limited minutes in the ISL, his chances of making it into the Indian side are slim but he is determined to make an impression whenever he gets a chance.

“I was really pleased to get the call up for camp earlier this year and it was an honour to be part of it. I now want to do my best in the ISL so that I can catch the eye of national team selectors and force my way into the side.”

Ishan Pandita is determined to make an impact in both the ISL and with the national team. He knows that his hard work will be rewarded if he can take advantage of any opportunities presented to him.
