“Australian batters understand how good Mohammed Shami is, whether with new or old ball.” Ricky Ponting
Indian ace pacer Mohammed Shami is going to be a key bowler in the World Test Championship final, which is going to happen at the Oval, England, as said by Australia’s veteran Ricky Ponting. The right-arm pacer had a great IPL season and bowled so well in the powerplay overs throughout the entire season. Mohammed Shami was the purple cap holder in the IPL 2023 for taking the most wickets in the IPL season. Playing for the Gujarat Titans, the UP-born pacer was utilized very well in the powerplay, which is a difficult zone for a bowler to bowl as there are only two fielders allowed outside the 30 yard circle, and being a pacer, stopping batters from making runs is quite difficult, but he rose to the challenges and bowled his best.
The bowling line-up of the Indian cricket team in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah looks quite incomplete as the bowler is recovering from the injury and would not be playing in the WTC final, but with some experienced pacers like Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, and Umesh Yadav in the team, the pacers could prove to be game changers in the WTC final as the pitches in England are quite different than the pitches in India and would be supportive to the pace bowlers. The only left-arm fast bowler option India has for the final is Jaydev Unadkat, who has now recovered from the shoulder injury and is practicing with the rest of the Indian team players in England. We hope he will be part of the playing XI.
Ricky Ponting, while speaking on the ICC review regarding Mohammed Shami, said that:
“Mohammed Shami has to step up or try to take his game to another level if India are going to win this game. When you talk to the Australian batters as well, they understand how good Shami is, whether it’s the new ball or old ball, whether it’s in Australia or India,”
