PV Sindhu and Prannoy into Semi-Final of the Malaysia Masters Open
PV Sindhu beats Yi Man Zhang of China 21-16, 13-21, 22-20 in the quarter-final of Malaysia Masters women’s singles to enter the semi-finals, and in the men’s singles, Prannoy H.S. defeated the Japanese badminton player Kenta Nishimoto by 25-23, 18-21, 21-13 to qualify for the semi-final of Malaysia Masters Open.
It was a tough match for the Indian ace PV Sindhu, but she won the match against the 18th-rank Y.M. Zhang. Before the Malaysia Open tournament, Sindhu struggled with her form, which is why she is now ranked 13 worldwide. Sindhu won the first set, but in the 2nd set, Zhang made a comeback, and in the last set, Sindhu won.
PV Sindhu’s next match is against the 9th-ranked player Gregoria Mariska Tunjung who defeated 2nd-ranked YI Zhi Wang of China in the quarter-final by a straight set 21-18, 22-20 to surprise everyone with her performance. Sindhu does not have a good record against Tunjung as she lost to her in the final of Madrid Spain Masters in a straight set that happened in April.
Prannoy H.S. had a hard-fought match against the 13-ranked badminton player Kenta Nishimoto of Japan in the quarter-final. Prannoy won the first set by 21-23, but in the second match, Kenta dominated the game and won the set by 18-21. In the last set, the Indian star badminton player easily won by 21-13 to reach the semi-final of the Malaysia Open.
Prannoy needs to be focused against the 54th-rank Indonesian badminton player who came in the semi-final after defeating Kidambi Srikanth 16-21, 21-16, 21-11 in the quarter-finals.
Indian Badminton team needs a medal and trophy badly because, after last year’s Thomas Cup, the performance of Indian Badminton went down, which became a major concern. The Sudirman Cup’s early exit is the biggest upset for the Indian team.
