GT vs MI Match Prediction: Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians will play the 2nd Qualifier of IPL 2023 at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, on May 26, 2023.

Gujarat Titans need to back themselves after the loss against the Chennai Super Kings by 15 runs after MS Dhoni’s amazing captaincy skill. Gujarat recently had a dip in their team performance, especially in their batting order. Shubman Gill is the only player who has been consistent with the performance. Other than him, no batter really performed well for the Gujarat Titans, which is a huge concern for them.

In the last match, the batting unit of Gujarat Titans was a total flop. Only Shubman Gill and Rashid Khan were able to score some runs else. The Chennai Super Kings bowlers were at the top of the match. The way the Gujarat team struggled to score runs against the spinners on a slow track showed their weakness which Mumbai can profit from in the Qualifier 2nd of IPL 2023.

Hardik Pandya needs to pull himself up first before he goes to other players and tells them what to do or what to not because, in the last 4 matches, Hardik has not crossed the 10-run mark.

Mumbai Indians picked up their form at the right time of the stage, and now they get themselves in the qualifiers 2nd of IPL 2023. They will face last year’s champion Gujarat Titans, whom they played against two times this year. They won their match against Lucknow Super Giants by 81 runs in eliminator 1.

Akash Madhwal of Mumbai Indians grabbed the win for his team after an amazing spell he bowled against Lucknow Super Giants in which he took 5 wickets by giving just 5 runs and now holds the best bowling figure record by any uncapped player in IPL history. He is also 5th on the list of best bowling figures by any bowler in the history of IPL till now.

Mumbai Indians are blessed with uncapped players who stepped up their game when the international players failed to perform, and this year Mumbai team found so many gems who might play in the Indian Cricket Team very soon because of their amazing performance.

Tilak Verma and Nehal Wadhera are the other two uncapped players who did quite well for the Mumbai Indians. They both are the 5th and 6th highest run scorers even though they did not play every match and played most of their match in the finishing position, just like the last match in which Nehal Wadhera came as an impact player and scored crucial 23 runs in just 12 balls.

GT vs MI: Head-to-Head Record

Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians played three matches against each other in IPL. Mumbai won 2 matches against the Gujarat side, who just won one match till now. The last match was a one-sided win for the Mumbai Indians in which Rashid Khan was the only player from the Gujarat Titans side who performed in the match against the Mumbai. The match was between Rashid Khan vs Mumbai Indians, which was not a good sight for any team if only one player performed in the whole match for you.

GT vs MI: Pitch Report of Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad

Match Played17
Batting first won9
Batting second won8
Average 1st innings score183.5
Pace bowlers took144 wickets
Spiner bowlers took65 wickets

The last match played on this ground was between Gujarat Titans vs Sunrisers Hyderabad, which was a high-scoring match. Spinners not got any wickets even when there were two world-class spinners like Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmad.

The ground is still heavily batting-friendly, but since four matches have already been played there, there may be some opportunity for spinners in the next game because it will become dryer as more games are played. Most of the Gujarat Titans’ batsmen are technically proficient batters who can hit and utilize the spacious ground to take off singles and doubles, which benefits the Titan’s team.

There was a bit of extra bounce on the pitch, which helped the pace bowlers to surprise the batsmen with a sharp bouncer. There was a swing in the first 5 overs of the match, so Bhuvneshwar Kumar grabbed 5 wickets, and Mohammed Shami got 4 wickets.

It’s quite humid at the moment, quite hot. It’s pitch number eight. Dimensions – 74 metres (square), just 58 metres on the other side, straight down the ground – 70 metres. It’s a fresh surface, unused. There’s a little bit of moisture, but it’s a hot day, so this moisture will dry out in another couple of hours. There are certain spots a little darker than what the pitch colour generally is. Once the moisture dries out, good pitch to bat. It’s all going to be about the batters in this contest.

Team Preview of Gujarat Titans

Gujarat Titans need to perform better as a team because the last three matches which they won were all about Shubman Gill and Mohit Sharma’s performance, but other players did not perform well, which was clearly seen in the last match against the Chennai Super Kings in which they lost by 15 runs.

Gujarat Titans will need to be at their best against the Mumbai Indians, who have been in superb form since the last stage of the IPL 2023, and almost every player on their team is performing quite well. Hardik Pandya was not happy with the batting of his team and the basic error they made in the match, which needed to be corrected.

I think we were quite spot-on (with the ball), but we made basic errors and that costed us the game. The kind of bowlers we had, I felt we conceded 15 extra runs. A lot of things we did right. We bowled a couple of soft balls in between. We were executing our plans and then in between we gave some runs.

The one positive that Gujarat will surely have is playing in the home ground against the Mumbai Indians, and the pitch of Narendra Modi Stadium is quite a high-scoring ground that does not offer much turn for the spinners. Gujarat team won 4 out of 8 matches on their home ground, and the last match they played against Mumbai Indians on the home ground went their way as they won the match easily by 55 runs.

Important Players who can perform well against the Mumbai Indians

1- Shubman Gill has the highest run from the Gujarat side against the Mumbai Indians as he scored 114 runs in 3 matches, but in the last match, he scored only 6 runs against them. Gill needs only 9 runs to get his hands on the orange cup in the IPL 2023, as right now, he has scored 722 runs in 15 matches. He played 10 matches against Mumbai Indains overall in IPL and scored 280 runs with an average of 28.

2- Rashid Khan has a great record against Mumbai Indians in IPL. He scored 102 runs in 13 matches and took 18 wickets against the Mumbai Indians. Rashid has scored 125 runs in 15 matches of IPL 2023 and took 25 wickets which clearly makes him a huge threat for the Mumbai Indians, but there is one huddle that Rashid needs to overcome the pitch of Ahmedabad, which is not been a spin-friendly track.

3- Mohit Sharma can be a game-changing player for the Gujarat Titans and has a good record against the Mumbai Indians. He picked up 26 wickets in 17 matches he played against Mumbai, and recently his form has been amazing in the last few matches. He grabbed 19 wickets in 12 matches, and two times, he picked four wickets in a match.

If Gujarat Titans want to win the next match against the Mumbai side, then Hardik and the team need to contribute more to the team because no team ever won any tournament just because of 1-2 players.

Team Preview of Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians had the most dramatic season in the IPL, and the way they reached qualifier 2 is another amazing feat by the most successful team of the IPL. The next match will be tough for them as they will face the defending champion Gujarat Titans, who have already played against them twice, but this time, it will be tough for them because the match will be played in Gujarat’s home ground.

Mumbai Indian’s young players rise to the occasion from time to time for the team, which is the best thing for the team and for their future also going to be quite bright in the future if the players keep performing like that.

The bowling unit needs to work together because, in the last 3-4 matches, only Akash Madhwal is the one who is performing well for the team, but Jason Behrendorff and Piyush Chawla need to support him.

Important Players who can perform well against the Gujarat Titans

1- Cameron Green can be a crucial player for the Mumbai Indians against the Gujarat Titans on the Ahmedabad pitch because it is batting-friendly, and Green loves to play on the pacey track. He scored a century in the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad and, in the last match, played a sensible inning of 41 runs in 23 balls.

2- Suryakumar Yadav can hurt Gujarat Titans once again as he did in the last encounter, in which he scored a century in just 49 balls. He is the leading run-scorer for the Mumbai Indians this year, scoring 544 runs in just 15 matches.

3- Akash Madhwal is having the best season of his life, and in the last two matches, he picked 9 wickets. The five-wicket haul in the last match was the best figure for him and also by any uncapped player in the history of IPL till now. He took 13 wickets in 7 matches, and in the last match against Gujarat Titans, he took 3 wickets.

I have been practicing a lot and waiting for my opportunity. I have done engineering, cricket is my passion and I have been waiting for this since 2018. When we practice in the nets, the management gives us the target and we try to execute our best. Hoping to do well in the coming games and want to end up as champions. The wicket of Nicholas Pooran was most pleasing for me.
