Why did Saurav Ganguly’s praise for Shubhman Gill disappoint Virat Kohli fans?

Former BCCI president and one of the legendary cricketers Saurav Ganguly recently showered praise on Shubhman Gill for his exceptional performance in the last league stage match of the IPL 2023 against Royal Challengers Bangalore at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Batting first, Royal Challengers Bangalore, riding on Virat Kohli’s 7th IPL ton, made 197 runs, but Gujarat Titans won the match as Shubhman Gill played an exceptional unbeaten innings of 104 runs while chasing the target. After his splendid knock, former cricketers and captains of other teams all praised him, and one of them was Saurav Ganguly, who praised him by tweeting from his Twitter account, saying that:

What talent this country produces .. shubman gill .. wow .. two stunning knocks in two halves .. IPL.. .. what standards in the tournament @bcci

After praising Shubhman Gill, Saurav Ganguly had gone through the wrath of Virat Kohli fans as he didn’t even mention Virat Kohli on his tweet as he also scored his 7th IPL ton while playing first, but Ganguly just mentioned Gill in his tweet. That is what irked Virat Kohli’s fans, and they started reminding the “Prince of Kolkata” that he should have mentioned Virat Kohli.

Virat Kohli and Saurav Ganguly have not been on talking terms for a long time, and the recent events in the IPL 2023 made the tussle between these two public when, in an IPL match against Delhi Capitals, RCB’s players were shaking hands with DC’s players and coaches. During that event, Saurav Ganguly jumped the queue to not shake hands with Kohli, but later, when the two teams had another match, the duo buried the hatchet and shake hands, which looked like a gesture that they were now mending their differences, but the recent tweet by Ganguly has reignited speculation that the rift between these two is still not over.
