Elena Rybakina lifted the Italian Open in the women’s single after Anhelina Kalinina was ruled out of the 2nd set after a leg injury.

Elena was in the lead by 6-4, 1-0, when the Ukrainian professional tennis player Kalinina could not move her leg properly and pulled herself out of the match in tears. It is Elena Rybakina’s 4th WTA title, but it was a win that Rybakina would not really be going to enjoy because it was a walkover win.

“With my game, I can play good on all the surfaces,”

“It’s just for clay I need to be ready more physically and have a lot of preparation, which I don’t always have the time for after the hard-court season.”

“I want to wish Kalininia a speedy recovery because she is a really good friend of mine and I am really happy for all of her results. She did a good job and hopefully can recover for the French Open.

Rybakina said after winning the title

Anhelina Kalinina tried to play, but her coach talked to her, and then she decided not to go further with the injury she had on her leg. After the match, she apologized to the fans and congratulated Elena Rybakina on the title.

“I’m really sorry that I couldn’t play. I was trying to do my best,”

“Congratulations for the title and everything you have done this year. It’s really inspiring and hopefully I can get to your level some day.”

Kalinina said after losing the match.

Elena Rybakina moved to 4th rank in the WTA ranking, which is her highest, after winning the Italian Open on May 22, 2023. She is also Kazakhstan’s first player to be in the Top 10 and also the first one to win a major trophy. She has a win-record percentage of 68.8 which is an impressive record for her, and she is now looking good for the French Open title contention. If she wins that one, then she will move up the ranking.
