Daniil Medvedev won the Italian Open for the first time, and it was his first clay-Court title
Daniil Medvedev won his first-ever clay-court title after defeating Holger Rune in a straight set by 7-5, 7-5 in the final of the Italian Open. He is a 27-year-old Russian professional tennis player and current rank 2 tennis player worldwide. He is the former number 1, but in a recent ranking, Carlos Alcaraz became the ranked 1st.
Italian Open is the fifth title for him this season, and after dominating the final match, he will be one of the favorites to win the French Open (Roland Garros) that will start on May 28, 2023, and it will be held at the Stade Roland-Garros in Paris, France. The tournament director is Amelie Mauresmo.
Daniil Medvedev won 18 titles on the hard courts, and this time, it was his first one, which made him feel relief because even he did not give himself a chance to win the title on the clay court.
“Honestly, I didn’t believe much I can win a Masters 1000 on clay in my career because usually I hated it,”
“I hated playing on it; I don’t feel good on it, like nothing was working.
“[But] before this tournament already in Madrid and Monte Carlo, I was kind of feeling not too bad. I didn’t have any big tantrums.
“I came here and I felt amazing on practice. I was like, ‘I don’t know what’s happening, but I feel amazing. Let’s see how it goes’.
“But then you need to play the toughest opponents in the world to try to make it and I’m really happy that I managed to do it and prove myself and everybody that I’m capable of doing it.”
Daniil Medvedev said after winning the Italian Open
