“I have never been a guy who plays too many fancy shots”- Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli, after hitting his sixth IPL ton against Sunrisers Hyderabad in their must-win match during the post-match presentation, said some valuable things about his way of playing cricket and why he didn’t try to play fancy shots, which we often see in limited overs formats, whether T20 or ODI. He said:
“I put myself under so much stress already. I don’t care what anyone says on the outside. I’ve never been a guy who plays so many fancy shots. It’s Test cricket after the IPL. Have to stay true to my technique.”
Virat Kohli was on point while saying that he never tries to be fancy with the shots as he plays his own game; he sticks to his strength of scoring most of his runs in front of the wicket, and that’s what helps him continue the way he plays. Soon after the IPL is over, Virat Kohli will be seen in action in the World Test Championship final against Australia in England this June 2023. As Test cricket demands patience and technique, T20 is more focused on scoring faster and showing the explosiveness to put a massive score on the board. Players who try to play fancy shots often ignore the fact that different formats require different approaches, and that’s what Kohli understands very well.
Virat Kohli, while chasing 187 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad in a must-win match, scored his first IPL century of the 2023 IPL season, making the overall IPL century to 6. He scored 100 runs in 63 balls and led his team to victory. Kohli and Faf had a match-winning partnership, especially Faf Du Plessis, who is playing magnificently in this year’s IPL and scored 71 runs in the match. During the post-match presentation, he also lauded the Faf Du Plessis innings and said that it’s good to play alongside an experienced player like him.
