Liverpool Set to Make Move for Feyenoord’s Orkun Kokcu
Liverpool are reportedly stepping up their interest in Feyenoord midfielder Orkun Kokcu as they look to strengthen the squad ahead of next season. Reports suggest that the Reds have had an eye on the Dutch Eredivisie following the January move of Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven and see Kokcu as someone who could potentially make an impact on Merseyside.
Kokcu, 20, has been in impressive form for Feyenoord this season, making 29 appearances in all competitions and is rated at around £25million. He would add depth to the midfield area and give Jurgen Klopp another option when it comes to playing two holding players in the middle of the park.
Despite being linked with a move to Liverpool, it is thought that Kokcu’s focus remains firmly on Feyenoord and his performances this season have been impressive enough to suggest he can make the step up in quality should he make the switch. The Reds are intent on ensuring some big purchases are made first though, with Alexis Mac Allister thought to be the player most likely to be the first through the door at Anfield in the summer.
The Reds have also been credited with an interest in Tijani Reijnders from AZ Alkmaar, but reports suggest that Liverpool view him as lower down on their list of targets. With some key players having just entered the final year of their contracts, Klopp knows that additions need to be made in the summer.
Kokcu has also attracted interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs, including Barcelona and Bayern Munich. However, it is thought that Liverpool are looking to make a move for him as soon as possible to fend off any potential competition.
Kokcu is a versatile player who can be deployed in a number of positions, and his ability to take on opponents with the ball would add another dimension to Liverpool’s attack. With the transfer window set to open in June, Klopp will no doubt be keeping an eye out for potential targets as he looks to strengthen his squad ahead of next season.
