Delhi Capitals, after losing the toss, were invited to bat first, and this time David Warner opened Delhi’s innings with Prithvi Shaw, and the duo, after carefully assessing the pitch for 2 overs, started hitting boundaries and took the team’s score to 60. After the end of the powerplay, the duo continued making runs, and they had a partnership of 94 runs, but then David Warner got dismissed by Sam Curran, with Shikhar Dhawan taking a splendid catch at covers.
Rilee Rossouw came to the crease and joined hands with Prithvi Shaw in the run show, while Prithvi Shaw completed his fifty but got dismissed by Sam Curran at the score of 54. Punjab Kings entered to chase the biggest target they ever did in the IPL and started their innings with Punjab’s captain Shikhar Dhawan and impact substitute Prabhsimran Singh. Shikhar Dhawan got out in the second over of the innings on a duck, and Atharva Taide came to bat. Prabhsimran Singh tried accelerating the pace of making runs, and in doing that, Prabhsimran gave his wicket to Axar Patel. Now, the big man, Liam Livingstone, entered the crease, and when he tried to get started in his own fashion, he mistimed the ball, but to his fate, Anrich Nortje dropped his catch, and he survived.
On the other end, Atharva Taide continued to make runs, Liam Livingstone started dealing in sixes after getting dropped, and Atharva Taide managed to score his fifty but got retired hurt after making 55 runs. Jitesh Sharma joined the crease but this time didn’t open his account and got out on a duck. Sharukh Khan, after trying to hit another maximum in the over of Khaleel, got dismissed.
Liam Livingstone, the lone fighter in Punjab Kings team, hit some massive sixes to narrow down the gap, and he single-handedly led the team close to the target. Sam Curran also played some shots, but he got dismissed in the penultimate over of the innings, and in the last over with Liam Livingstone on strike, Punjab Kings needed 33 runs to win, but they couldn’t and lost the match by 15 runs.

Delhi Capitals, despite getting out of the playoffs earlier before the match, put on a great batting performance with Prithvi Shaw and Rilee Rossouw hitting their fifties, while Punjab Kings’ put up a fight to come out victorious in their must-win match, but they fell short by 15 runs as Delhi Capitals sealed the match. Now the way to the playoffs is almost closed for the Punjab Kings if there are no big twists in the upcoming matches of other teams.
Sloppy fielding by Delhi Capitals during the match helped Punjab Kings get close to the target. Though Delhi Capitals managed to win the match, the way they fielded while defending such a big target was not up to the standards of fielding that anyone expected from them. On the other hand, Punjab Kings are almost out of the playoffs, so they would try to win their last match.

“Pretty bad fielding performance. We backed our strengths. Playing on a nice wicket helped. Was pretty challenging at home. “The impact Prithvi had was nice to see. Rilee Rossouw played well as well. We needed some consistency at our home venue. We haven’t been able to work out a total at home. Great to get the points tonight.”
