Legendary ‘Coach K’ Brings Vast Experience and Expertise to the NBA as Special Adviser to Basketball Operations

Mike Krzyzewski, the Hall of Fame and all-time men’s college Division I coaching wins leader, joins the NBA as a special adviser to basketball operations to offer counsel and guidance on a range of topics.

The National Basketball Association (NBA) announced Wednesday that legendary Hall of Famer and all-time men’s college Division I coaching wins leader, Mike Krzyzewski, is the league’s new special adviser to basketball operations.

Krzyzewski, who is widely known as ‘Coach K,’ has retired from college basketball after 40 seasons and 11 national titles at Duke University. He will now join the NBA family share his vast experience and knowledge with the league’s benefit.

At 71 years old, Krzyzewski has been a five-time national coach of the year and was also the head coach of the U.S. men’s Olympic basketball team in 2008, ’12 and ’16, winning gold medals all three times. He is considered one of the most influential figures in sports history for both his success on the court and for the way he handled himself and his teams.

“I am thrilled to have this opportunity to contribute to the NBA and its teams,” Krzyzewski said in a statement released by the league. “The game of basketball has provided me with so many wonderful opportunities, and I look forward to helping the NBA in any way I can.”

Krzyzewski’s new role will be to offer counsel and guidance on a range topics, including player development and team-building strategies His presence at the league’s general managers meeting Chicago next week for the draft and combine is sure to be an exciting addition for the NBA.
